Gratitude: Romanticals

I'm thankful for romanticals.
I like them. Obviously, for I have shelves and shelves of them - mostly historicals.

What was the first one you ever read and how old were you when you read it?

Aaah - my girlfriend handed over "Defy Not The Heart" by Joanna LIndsay - it opens with a fair and rambunctious maiden defending her castle (in mail)- yet again- from those that seek to take it and her over!
I was probably 25, or thereabouts.
I was hooked! (tried the harlequins- but they're much to shallow and cheesy for me. I like the fulfilling ones - 500pps of small print! with character depth.)
Also - I've turned down quite a few - if I"m not completely in love with the main characters by page 100, I toss it.
(prim sniff)
I'll not waste my time with anything inferior!

Perhaps I've already told you mine. If so, I beg your pardon! It was "The Flame and the Flower" by Kathleen Woodiwiss and I was 12 or 13. I, too was hooked and love to look for them at the used bookstore.

Have you ever read "The Mists of Avalon"? I think you would LOVE it.

Haven't read The Musts of Avalon".

Favorite KW is (I've forgotten the name! gonna read it soon) is the one with Christopher Seaton and ... doh! Pastel toothpaste green... (at least in the last decade it was.) Ariel? Is that right? The cape and club foot?
One of my top 10 favorites!

I would love to send you a copy of The Mists of Avalon. It was recommended to me by my high school english teacher and it's my favorite book of all time. It's sort of a tradition for me to give a copy to someone when I recommend it, partially because it's the one book I never loan out. Second because I know the reader will be hooked and will want their own copy.

Let me know what you think about that. It won't hurt my feeling if you say no.
